MyChingo - The Audio Comment System

Developed by Michael Bailey of Mobasoft, LLC

MyChingo provides an easy to implement audio comment system which can be used on any web site or blog.

Typical implementations have been on MySpace pages, personal web-sites, business web sites, podcaster web sites, and others.

The term 'Chingo' was initially selected because it is a PC Jargon word meaning 'Chat Lingo'. After the initial development and launch of the service, others found an obscure reference to the word in the Urban Dictionary which points to a derogative Spanish meaning.

As it is not my intent to offend anyone, I have decided to change the name of the service to the MobaTalk Comment System, and while doing so, increase the features of the service. As of August, 25th, 2006, this transition is currently under development.

The overall MyChingo system is a hybrid of several different programming languages including Flash Action Script from Adobe(formerly Macromedia), Java from Sun Microsystems, HTML, Java Script, and ASP with VBScript processed server-side. It currently resides on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server in the Internet Information System(IIS).

The decision to use a variety of languages was pretty simple. There were only two available languages at the time which would allow the recording of audio on a client machine. Those languages were Flash Action Script and Java.

The Flash Action Script solution requires the use of server-side applications which are quite costly for a project which doesn't have a substantial financial support system.

I decided to use the second choice, Java-based client-side recording and then I joined forces with VIMAS Technologies, located in the Ukraine, due to their expertise with Java and they had an existing Java-based audio recorder which is now the core engine of the MyChingo system.

Sergey Kuchma, of VIMAS Technologies has been a great pleasure to work with during the initial phase of development. He is also dedicated to developing a stable and robust commenting system. Several discussions between Sergey and myself have lead to some interesting results and the future feature-set of MobaTalk will no doubt reflect these. Options such as selectable audio sample rates and the introduction of video comments are just some of the new features to look for when the MobaTalk comment system comes online.
